Since November
of 03 the Small Arms Readiness Training Section has been going
out to different units to conduct Pre Marksmanship Instructions.
Many of the units that have received the PMI classes are due to
deploy. While others have received new weapons like the M16A4
or the M249 SAW and needed training on these new weapon systems.
Many, if not all of the SART Section are graduates of the Smalls
Arms Instructor/ Range Operations Course (SAIROC) and some are
graduates of the Master Marksman Trainer Course. With this type
of training, the SART Section is able to provide instruction on
any Smalls Arms from the M-9 to the M2 Machine Gun. Two of our
instructors are also able to provide training on the MK-19.
The SART Section
has provided a PMI class every month since the year began to some
unit in the Texas National Guard. And it does not look like it
is going to end any time soon. As it was stated before many of
the units have requested PMI classes on the M16, M-9 and M249
SAW.
Not only does
the SART Section provide marksmanship training, they are also
shooters. 2004 has been a very busy year. SART Section members
have been to many different matches this year. Military and Civilian
matches. They have either won matches or have been in the TOP
Five in many of the matches they competed in. One of those (SSG
Charles Blackwell) is the All-Army National Champion. See other
articles on our web site for competition results.
