MEMORANDUM FOR Each Team Captain

SUBJECT: Twenty-Fourth Annual Adjutant General's Combat Pistol Match Letter of Instruction (LOI)


1. This letter invites the registration of your team for the Twenty-Fourth Annual Adjutant General's Combat Pistol Match. Complete the registration form (Encl 1) and send in. Units may send more than one team.

2. The match will be conducted 0700-1700, 5 - 6 March 2005 at Camp Swift, Bastrop, TX. NOTE: A small arms clinic will be available beginning at 1200, 4 Mar 05 for those pistol teams that desire a review of the new combat pistol course of fire. Ammunition and instruction will be provided by the Small Arms Readiness Training Section (SARTS).

3. Upon arrival, each competitor will sign in for squading and billeting (see Encl 2). SARTS personnel will operate a registration desk on Friday, 4 Mar 05 from 1700-2400. Competitors who do not register during that time must register on the Camp Swift pistol range between 0640 and 0740 on Saturday, 5 Mar 05.

4. Opening ceremonies will be held at approximately 0800, 5 Mar 05 at the range. All competitors must be in BDUs with proper equipment (LBE, Kevlar, protective masks and four (4) pistol magazines) and be prepared to move to firing points after the ceremonies.

.....a. If there is a shortage of 9mm ammunition, a portion of the pistol competition will be fired with .22 caliber pistols.

.....b. Pistols will be provided by HQ STARC.

.....c. Eye protection is mandatory for the pistol competition.

5. Match is open to all ranks including officers.

6. Orientation.

.....a. Safety Briefing: A safety briefing concerning proper range procedures, handling of weapons on and off firing line and proper loading procedures will be conducted by SARTS personnel prior to moving to the firing line. Any team member not adhering to these procedures will cause the disqualification of their entire team.

.....b. Scoring: Scoring procedures will be presented by SARTS personnel.

.....c. All other match activities will follow the match schedule (Encl 2).

7. Security of Arms and Ammunition.

.....a. Arms and equipment security is the responsibility of each individual and team OIC. At no time will a competitor leave a weapon or equipment unattended. Overnight security for weapons will be provided by the SARTS. Weapons will not be stored in POVs or government vehicles.

.....b. Ammunition for the match will be furnished and secured by SARTS personnel.

8. Awards Ceremonies: Awards ceremonies will be conducted at an appropriate location at Camp Swift. The awards will be presented after the completion of firing and the score cards have been verified. All competitors will attend and be released to return to home of record immediately following the ceremonies. Governor's Twenty Tabs will be awarded to the top eight competitors in the match.

9. Administration.

.....a. Request for orders for all participating personnel must be initiated on a TXARNG 73-R unit level, through command channels to JFTX-J3-OTT for orders issuance. In the remarks section of the TXARNG 73-R shall be "NO PAY STATUS: and "TRANSPORTATION OF WEAPONS REQUIRED." Request for orders must be initiated in a timely manner to arrive at OTT at least 40 days prior to the event. .....b. Meals will be provided for personnel in IDT/Drill status only.

10. Additional information to include the courses of fire can be obtained from the Texas Marksmanship web page (http://www.txmarks.org).
